December 30th, 2011 1 comment

Watch and enjoy as the nice small business owner has the disruptive OWSers escorted out of her coffee shop by the police.

From Chris Moody via Yahoo News:

DES MOINES, Iowa–On Friday morning before a planned event appearance by Newt Gingrich, some members of “Occupy Iowa” made a stop at Java Joe’s, a coffee shop here that MSNBC has been broadcasting from (MSNBC was not, however, broadcasting the Gingrich appearance).

The protesters didn’t get far before the owner of the shop gave them the boot.

About four or five Occupiers stood chanting in the middle of the crowded coffee shop before  they were told to leave.

Baby, Don’t Go…….

What I find most amazing about this story is that they were only begging 300 people not to cancel their subscriptions.

From Direct Marketing News

An email appeal from The New York
Times
offering readers a special deal to not cancel their subscriptions
was accidentally mass-emailed to about 8 million people on Dec. 28, rather than
the 300 individuals for whom the message was intended.

“An email was sent on Wednesday afternoon from The New York Times in
error,” said Eileen Murphy, VP of corporate communications, in an emailed
statement. “This email should have been sent to a very small number of
subscribers, but instead was sent to a vast distribution list made up of people
who had previously provided their email address to The New York Times. We
regret the error.”

Amy Chozick, corporate media reporter for The New York Times,
confirmed in a tweet
that the “vast distribution list” was about 8 million people and was intended
for only 300.

Wasteful Government Spending in 2011- The Senator Coburn Report

December 22nd, 2011 1 comment

Some highlights of the report on wasteful spending produced by Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn, M.D.

Perhaps Rick Perry is right and Congress should only work part-time.

From The Office of Sen. Tom Coburn:

Examples of wasteful spending highlighted in “Wastebook 2011” include:

• $75,000 to promote awareness about the role Michigan plays in producing Christmas trees & poinsettias.

• $15.3 million for one of the infamous Bridges to Nowhere in Alaska.

• $113,227 for video game preservation center in New York.

• $550,000 for a documentary about how rock music contributed to the collapse of the Soviet Union.

• $48,700 for 2nd annual Hawaii Chocolate Festival, to promote Hawaii’s chocolate industry.

• $350,000 to support an International Art Exhibition in Venice, Italy.

• $10 million for a remake of “Sesame Street” for Pakistan.

• $35 million allocated for political party conventions in 2012.

• $765,828 to subsidize “pancakes for yuppies” in the nation’s capital.

Demolishing The Myth of the “One Percent”

December 20th, 2011 No comments

So this means that the myth of the 99% is BS, too.  Who woulda thunk all those OWSers were wrong?

<>

The distinction between the 99% and the 1% assumes that there is a ruling class that is permanently in place, but this view is completely inaccurate. It misses the story of income mobility.

Watch University of Nevada-Reno economist Brad Schiller as he discusses income mobility and the 1%.

The Best Illustration of The True Goals of The Occupy Movement

December 19th, 2011 1 comment

This video comes via Brandon at Misfit Politics.  It is great because I think the Occupy Movement has fooled a lot of folks.  The Occupy movement is an anti-Christian, anti-capitalist, anarchist movement bent on the destruction of America and other free societies.

The majority of protesting OWSers are just the useful idiots who have been manipulated to help bring about this destruction.  We should never forget that the Dems have embraced this movement.

Christmas Dinner Roast

December 18th, 2011 2 comments

There is no better combination for a Christmas Roast then Horseradish and Roast Beef.
Plus, it is simple to prepare on a busy Christmas day.

Recipe from FOOD & WINE

Food & Wine

Horseradish-Crusted Roast Beef

To showcase deeply flavorful grass-fed beef, butcher-shop ownersJessica and Josh Applestone make a simple roast beef using any number of cuts, including rib loin (prime rib), top round or a tied sirloin tip. The roast—deliciously crusted with horseradish and black peppercorns—is perfect hot out of the oven, but it’s also amazing cold on a sandwich: Thinly slice the roast beef and serve it on white bread with horseradish mayonnaise and juicy tomatoes.

  • ACTIVE: 10 MIN
  • TOTAL TIME: 2 HRS 30 MIN
  • SERVINGS: 8 TO 10
  • MAKE-AHEAD

INGREDIENTS

  • Ingredients
    1. One 6-pound sirloin tip roast, preferably grass-fed, tied
    2. 1/2 cup prepared horseradish
    3. 2 tablespoons kosher salt
    4. 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
    5. 2 tablespoons finely chopped parsley
    6. 1 tablespoon coarsely ground black pepper
    7. 1 tablespoon sugar
    8. 1 tablespoon sherry vinegar

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°. Set a rack in a large, deep roasting pan and place the beef roast on the rack.
  2. In a small bowl, blend the horseradish with the salt, Dijon mustard, chopped parsley, ground pepper, sugar and sherry vinegar to form a paste. Slather the paste all over the top and sides of the meat. Roast in the lower third of the oven for about 2 hours, until an instant-read thermometer inserted in the center of the roast registers 125°. Transfer the roast to a cutting board and let rest for at least 20 minutes.
  3. Discard the string and thinly slice the roast beef across the grain. Transfer the meat to a platter and serve.

SERVE WITH Chef Pete’s Garlicky Mashed Potatoes.

A wonderful example of staying true to one’s values and the respect for human life.

Bravo LifeWay!!!!

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Southern Baptist Convention’s publishing division is recalling pink Bibles, saying some of the money raised through their sale was to be given to Planned Parenthood.

LifeWay Christian Resources no longer markets the pink-bound version of the Holman Christian Standard Bible and is recalling copies it sold, according to The Tennessean (http://tnne.ws/u90K40).

A portion of the purchase price was pledged to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Andrea Rader in the charity’s marketing department said LifeWay had pledged $25,000.
