Okay, now honestly, this is one of the best 2012 Presidential Election videos, yet!   It personifies one of the biggest political campaign miscalculations in history: Barack Obama’s “You didn’t build that” line.

Send it out to the kids because the message is loud and clear.

The question that begs to be asked is: Did they bring them or merely encounter them?

Bedbugs an increasing concern at DNC hotels

Charlotte seeing an uptick in pest reports

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — You think incumbent politicians are hard to get rid of? Try  bedbugs.

The blood-sucking insects have made a resurgence in recent years, including  reports of them at nine of the hotels being used for Democrats’ nominating  convention this week in Charlotte.

Some convention-goers were fearful in the run-up to the convention, and state  officials and exterminators said bedbug reports have been on the uptick in and  around the Queen City.

But county health officials say they have taken precautions to make sure the  pests aren’t waiting in hotel rooms to go home with guests as unwanted  souvenirs.

“We did inspect all of the hotels and we do respond to complaints,” said Stephen Graham, an environmental supervisor  for the Mecklenburg  County Health Department. “We’re required to inspect them once a year, and  we inspected them all after the start of the new fiscal year [July 1].”

The rise in the pest’s activity has led to the advent of websites such as  BedBugReports.com and BedBugRegistry.com, where hotel-goers can report their bad  experiences in hopes of warning other travelers.

A search of BedBugRegistry.com brings up more than 30 Charlotte-area hotels  where visitors have reported bedbugs, including nine hotels that will host at  least 10 of the state delegations attending this week’s convention.

“Come on, gimme a hug.”

I guess the union thugs realize people are on to them, since all that trouble they caused in Wisconsin.   Found this story at Citizen Journalist, one of my new favorite blogs.

 “Hug-a-Thug” at the DNC

More fun at the DNC.

The local AFL-CIO has a booth where union members will be giving out free hugs on Labor Day, in celebration of American workers on the eve of the Democratic Convention in Charlotte. Calling the event, “Hug-a-Thug”, the Union is trying to fight portrayals from critics that they are thugs, and promote the importance of unions.

From their website: No Papers, No Fear

This one seems a little Occupyish, no?

This one just seems kinda rude.

How is it that illegal immigrants can flaunt their status on a cross country bus tour and our government does nothing?  Especially after they have been arrested for blocking traffic in Knox County, Tennesse.  Anyway, they do have a nice website called, “No Papers, No Fear” with direct links to emails for select liberal Democrat politicians and celebrities.  Which is kinda funny, because I thought these things were supposed to be bi-partisan.

From The Charlotte Observer

CHARLOTTE, N.C.    One is a stay-at-home mom of three. Another is a construction worker. One is a student who hopes to attend graduate school for math and economics.

All of them risked deportation to demand greater rights for undocumented immigrants.

They, along with 22 others, arrived in Charlotte Saturday evening on the “Undocubus.”

The bus riders are part of a group of some four dozen riders who will converge on uptown Sunday for the March on Wall Street South.

The group left Phoenix in July in a small caravan led by a 1972 tour bus emblazoned with the words “Sin Papeles Sin Miedo” and “No Papers, No Fear.”

Leticia Ramirez, 27, has been arrested and released in Arizona. The mother of three who decorates cake on the side said she rode the bus to tell other undocumented workers to know their rights and how to protect themselves. She also said the bus ride has been liberating. “Since I got out of the shadows, I don’t feel afraid of what might happen,” she said.

As the bus pulled up to El Siloe church off of Eastway Drive, bus riders waved out the windows, cheering and fist-pumping as they were greeted outside by about 30 people holding signs and cheering them in welcome.

“No papers!” they yelled. Others responded, “No fear!”

The group’s five-week ride has already led to arrests: Four of the group were arrested in Knoxville, Tenn., last week after disrupting a political meeting, but they were subsequently released.

Aside from the presence of the Democratic National Convention, Mecklenburg County represents an attractive place to protest for several reasons.

The county has a growing Hispanic population, and the county was one the earliest participants in the 287 (g) program, which means the sheriff’s office screens all arrestees for their citizenship status.

Those found to be in the country illegally can be referred to federal authorities for deportation.

Jim Pendergraph, who served as Mecklenburg County Sheriff for 13 years and is now a county commissioner, was the first to bring 287 (g) to the east coast in 2006.

“I think it’s outrageous that they’re thumbing their nose at federal and United States law by parading themselves around the country and advertising that they’re illegal aliens in the country, and no one is taking action against them,” Pendergraph said.

He said he’s heard that local law enforcement was told not to arrest people on the Undocubus.

“Actually, I’ve spoken to people from Homeland Security, and that’s what people have told them, is hands off,” he said.

Since May 2006, 20,710 inmates at Mecklenburg County Jail have been identified as undocumented immigrants.

Did you get that last line?  “Since May 2006, 20,710 inmates at Mecklenburg County Jail have been identified as undocumented immigrants.”  That’s in one county. One. That’s a lot  of expense.  Who pays for that? We do.  I think I want some justice, too.  Tax justice.  Conservatives should own that one: Tax justice.

Oh, what a world, what a world!

From the Washington Times

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A torrential downpour that struck Charlotte Saturday  afternoon damaged the Mount Rushmore-style sand sculpture bust of President  Obama — an ominous beginning to what many fear is a plagued convention.

Workers were trying Saturday afternoon to reform the base of the sculpture,  built from sand brought in from Myrtle Beach, S.C., pounding and smoothing out  the sand that had washed off the facade.

Dems Remove Massive Amounts Of Sand From Red State Myrtle Beach

Huh? I am perplexed.  It’s being reported that Democrats have removed over 15 tons of sand from Myrtle Beach, SC in order to erect a giant Barack Obama sand sculpture at the Democrat National Convention in Charlotte, NC.  Why am I perplexed and not merely amused?  Because in 1998, the Army Corp of Engineers spent $60 million of public money to put sand back into the beach!

From the Myrtle Beach Visitor’s Bureau:

Myrtle Beach area beaches are wider than ever, the result of a two-year renourishment project completed in 1998. It pumped almost five million cubic yards of new sand onto the shores. This $60 million enhancement plan was conducted by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers with federal, state and local funding in cooperation with Myrtle Beach area municipalities and a national dredging company.

If I was a taxpayer in Myrtle Beach, I would want to know how 15 tons of South Carolina sand ended up at the DNC Convention in Charlotte, NC, and exactly where it came from.  It’s also puzzling that Democrats, who consider themselves bastions of environmental policy, would actually think that utilizing sand for this purpose was a good idea, especially when beaches remain a fragile habitat for many types of endangered wildlife.

On a related note, please sing along.
