Drudgetaposition With Obama’s New Flag

September 20th, 2012 1 comment

Spew readers, as you know, The Drudge Report engages in something called “Drudgetaposition,” where they cleverly arrange images to send subtle messages to its readers.   Today is one of those days and it’s a doozy.  The first image  is a screen-cap from today’s edition with the stories in question circled.  The first story  is illustrated with a picture of the bloody handprints at the Libyan embassy where four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens, were murdered.  To the right of that story is an image of  a new Obama flag for sale called “Our Stripes.”

The second image  is a less-subtle juxtaposition of the two images in question, which our dear Fester Boyle has so kindly arranged which shows a striking comparison of the two images.  “Our Stripes” indeed.

Veterans Call Obama Flag Despicable, Desecration

By Todd Starnes

A Florida Democratic Party outpost has taken down an American flag depicting an image of President Obama after a group of veterans complained that the flag had been desecrated.

The flag was flying underneath an American flag outside the Lake County Democratic Party headquarters. Instead of stars, the blue field featured an image of President Obama’s face.

That infuriated local veterans like Jim Bradford, the office manager at the Veterans Memorial at Fountain Park in nearby Leesburg.

“I couldn’t believe that anybody in their right mind would desecrate the American flag that way,” he told Fox News. “It was disrespectful.”

“It’s a cult of personality to show his face, like Stalin or Mao,” said former Marine John Masterjohn in an interview with the Orlando Sentinel. “It’s despicable. They don’t realize how sick they are.”

Nancy Hurlbert, the chairwoman of the local Democratic Party, removed the flag after a group of veterans staged a protest outside her office.

An American Soldier

January 6th, 2012 1 comment

This story made me cry.   I can not adequately express my profound gratitude, admiration and respect for this soldier and his family.  God bless them and all of our troops.

From The Disney Parks blog

In a year of celebrating Memories at Disney Parks, some just have a way of stopping your heart.  Disney’s PhotoPass photographers recently captured this photo at the daily Flag Retreat ceremony at Magic Kingdom Park, of wounded veteran and two-time Purple Heart recipient, Army Sgt. Cesar Sanchez from Miami, Fla.  Although still recovering from his injuries overseas, Sgt. Sanchez insisted on leaving his electric wheelchair to walk the flag down Main Street, U.S.A., saying “If it’s for the colors, I’ll walk.”  Cast members who assisted with the ceremony that day were stunned by his courage and resolve to honor the Stars and Stripes.

Talking with Sgt. Sanchez was one of the most moving conversations I’ve ever experienced.

Sgt. Sanchez shared that he was injured while deployed to Afghanistan in 2009, serving in an elite Army company responsible for finding and clearing improvised explosive devices.  He was injured during one such mission, but calmly reminded me that it was his job to do so.  Stunned silence was really all I could offer in return and a meager, “thank you” squeaked out between a few tears, hiccups and deep breaths.

I have communicated several times with Sgt. Sanchez, who asked that I work with his wife Farrah to share his story with Disney Parks Blog readers.  She explained he almost died in the explosion and is still undergoing physical therapy for his injuries.  Sgt. Sanchez received both Purple Hearts on that mission  because he insisted on doing the sweep first, before leading the rest of his team into the danger zone.  It was this selfless act that resulted in the explosion of only the vehicle that Sgt. Sanchez was traveling in,  saving countless members of his team.

Farrah wanted to add:  “Please tell everyone how proud my husband and I were to join the Army and serve our country.  We love our jobs!   I also want everyone to know how proud (daughter) Emily and I are of Cesar and how very much we love him still.”   Again, I was rendered speechless.

Michelle Obama Lip Readers

September 13th, 2011 9 comments

There’s something pretty despicable going on right now in much of the right-wing blogosphere. A video of Michelle Obama taken during the 9/11 memorial flag service is being propagated throughout the blogs. In the video, Mrs. Obama leans towards her husband and says something while an American flag is ceremoniously folded.  The video has no audible recording of what Mrs. Obama actually says to her husband, nor has anyone asked Mrs. Obama what she said during a private comment with her husband. However, that does not stop unfair and damaging speculation by many so-called conservative blogs and their readers. Suddenly it seems, everybody is a skilled lip reader or knows someone who reads lips for a living. Look at her smirk, look at the way she shakes her head, read her lips they cry – “She hates the flag. She hates America!”

The beauty for these haters is that they can claim she says whatever they wish her to say. Doesn’t matter if she said it, the damage gets done all the same. No one, other than her husband and she knows what she actually said, and as I far as I know, they haven’t told us, but that doesn’t stop these so-called “conservatives” from putting the words right in her mouth.

Not only that, but LipGate seems to have opened the door even wider for sexist and racist comments to flow right along with the unfair speculation. You think I exaggerate? Take a look around. The racism and sexism that Michelle Obama has been subjected to by some popular so-called conservative blogs is not hard to find and easily rivals the sexism to which Sarah Palin was subjected. In fact, even the normally top-notch American Thinker has posted the video in question with suggestions for the viewer to guess at what she is saying. I say disgusting and unfair.

These types of attacks do not help the conservative movement and can only hurt it. It is fair to castigate Michelle Obama for comments she actually made or policies she actually endorses, but to malign her for conservative wishful thinking reeks and I want no part of it. Don’t get me wrong, I could probably vote for almost anyone other than Obama in 2012, but I also believe in fairness and honesty. And honestly, this stinks.
